At Local 700 of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, we believe in the American dream where work is respected, jobs pay living wages, our families have secure health care and the next generation has the opportunity for a better future.
We are building a 21stcentury union—innovative, responsive and growing—to make sure the American dream is there for today’s working families. The center of our union is an active membership involved in improving the workplace, serving the community and making the voice of workers heard in the political process.
As UFCW Local 700 president, I am committed to providing union members with effective representation at work and strong contracts that provide both dignity and a decent standard of living.
Right now, we are in the forefront of meeting some of the most difficult challenges of our times. In the supermarket industry, for workers covered under the union health care plan, we just expanded wellness and preventive care benefits with no co-pays or deductibles for workers. Keeping families healthy actually reduces costs in the long run. For the growing number of immigrant workers in food processing, we established a workers center to provide helpful information, resources and training. For all members, union contracts provide for fair treatment, opportunity and job security.
UFCW Local 700 is an exciting and dynamic organization of workers. Union-sponsored social activities from picnics to sporting events bring members and their families together. We are a young union with a large number of members under age 25. We are a responsible union with fundraising efforts to improve our communities, including being one of the largest contributors to Leukemia research.
Be part of the new UFCW Local 700. We are making it better everyday.
