Being a Union Member

Higher wages

U.S. Departments of Labor statistics show that union workers make an average of 27% more than their non-union counterparts.

Better health insurance benefits

UFCW Local 700 members have contract language that provide:

  • Major Medical Insurance
  • Hospitalization
  • Sick Pay
  • Life Insurance
  • Prescription Drug Cards
  • Dental Insurance
  • Vision Care
  • Pension Benefits

Job protections

What’s a job without job security? Indiana, Illinois and Michigan are “Willful Employment” states. That means an employer can fire you without just cause unless they violate one of your “Section 7” rights. With a UFCW Local 700 contract, an employer must have a just cause to discipline, suspend, or fire you.

A voice on the job

Shouldn’t you have a voice in your work place? Non-union employees often work for employers that have an open door policy, meaning, “If you don’t like it, you can leave through the open door and look for another job.”

A UFCW Local 700 contract gives you the right to voice your opinion and to strive to make your workplace better. With a union contract you have someone to stand by you when you have a problem with management.
